Big Reds Steakhouse - Algarve
Big Red's Steakhouse is an inviting restaurant that specializes in - you guessed it - mouth-watering, sizzling steaks, located between the Algarve resorts of Praia do Vau and Alvor .
The owner, Nick Rowe who is originally from Plymouth, opened Big Red's Ribshack in Praia da Rocha some years ago. The Ribshack was such a success that Nick decided to expand the Big Red's concept - and so Big Red's Steakhouse was born.
The restaurant is large but with a bright, warm décor. There is a huge outside terrace - seating here is at a premium on those warm Algarve evenings. The staff, Portuguese and English, are friendly and helpful and do their best to help you with that all important decision - what sauce to have on your steak.
As you might expect the choice of steaks is wide - fillet, sirloin or T-bone steaks cooked to your liking either plain or with a choice of peppercorn, Brandy Mushroom or Blue Cheese Sauce. You can opt for Surf & Turf, Tornédos Rossini with a rich Madeira sauce, Café de Paris, Steak Diane or the fantastic Balsamic and Ginger steak. The menu at Big Red's is not limited to steaks. There is a choice of fish dishes, chicken dishes, rack of Lamb and of course, the famous Big Red's Rack of Ribs as well as a good choice of vegetarian dishes. The house specials of Beef Wellington and Lobster Thermidor are worth mentioning - 24 hour notice is required for these dishes.
Dessert might be a struggle, but the effort is worth it. Hot Chocolate and Hazelnut Brownie served with Baileys ice cream, Crème brulee, Crêpe Suzette, Bread and Butter Pudding to name a few.
A great Sunday lunch is served at Big Reds - a traditional three course meal with all the trimmings.
The atmosphere at Big Red's is relaxed and friendly. The portions are generous, the quality of the food is consistently good and the steaks are just soooo good.
