Vale do Lobo Royal Course - Algarve
The Vale de Lobo Golf Resort encompasses the renowned Royal and Ocean Courses and we can tell you first hand that playing either of the Vale do Lobo golf courses is a memorable experience. Both courses present golfers with a stunning round and have different challenges to be overcome to battle for a good score! One helping factor: the greens are some of the highest quality our team have ever come across.
The Vale do Lobo Royal Course is very similar to the Ocean Course in so much as during your round you will come across many different challenging holes to overcome. Like the Ocean Course the key to success is to play safe off the tee, any wayward shots will make for a very tough round if you want to score well.
Unlike the Ocean Course which has its own territory, the Royal Course meanders its way round the Vale do Lobo Resort. The course is one with rolling fairways set amidst pine trees and beautiful lakes, surrounded by wild flowers. As you play your round you may also notice you share the fairways with a variety of wild birds.
The jewel in the crown of the Royal Course is undoubtedly the famous 16th hole, for which the course is best known. The 16th is one of the most photographed and celebrated golfing images in the world and has become a symbol for golfing in the Algarve. It´s a breathtaking par 3 set right against the cliffs edge and the sea. From the men's tee there is a 190 meter cliff-top carryover to reach the green. If there is little or no wind then it´s a perfectly makeable shot but if the wind is blowing you might want to play out to the right to be on the safe side!!!
The 16th certainly is spectacular but the rest of the holes combine to make a very enjoyable round on this very mature and natural looking course. The course offers a good blend of short and medium length par 4s, par 5s where only the best shots will result in a birdie and three tough par 3s, with two requiring a shot over water.
